First National Premiere of Henrik Ibsen’s “When We, Dead, Awaken”

“Lucian Blaga” National Theater in Cluj, in cooperation with ART ACT Theater Company, under the high patronage of The Royal Norwegian Embassy in Bucharest, presents, Tuesday, the 10^th of March 2009, the following events dedicated to the great Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen:

· 13.00 at Cluj National Art Museum

The release of “When We, Dead, Awaken” play book in Romanian, the last play written by Henrik Ibsen; translation by Sanda Tomescu Baciu; published by the Apostrof Publishing House in Cluj.

Opening of the “Timp si Rastimp” decorative art exhibition by Mariana Gheorghiu, artist.

Speaker: Calin Stegerean, exhibition curator

Mariana Gheorghiu is a renown name in Cluj’ traditional plastic arts. She has already had 5 personal exhibitions and 12 collective exhibitions. The artist’s works of art were the subject of 5 TV documentaries by the Romanian National TV. In 2007 she was awarded the National Award of the Romanian Plastic Artists Union.

The national premiere of “When We, Dead, Awaken” play by Henrik Ibsen, translation by Sanda Tomescu Baciu, directed by Catalina Buzoianu, settings by: Adriana Grand. The play will be broadcasted live by TVR Cultural. H.E. Mr. Øystein Hovdkinn, Ambassador of Norway in Romania, will attend the première.

Catalina Buzoianu is one of Romania’s greatest theater directors, with over 100 plays directed to date, in Romania and abroad. She has won numerous awards, such as: The Katowice Festival Award – Poland, 1972; Romanian Academy Award, 1973; Contemporary Theatre Award, Brasov, 1978; ATM Awards 1979, 1980, 1985, 1986; UNITER Awards in 1991 and 1995; National Theatre Festival Grand Award, 1994, 1996, 1997; International Romanian Drama Festival Grand Award for ”Procust’s Bed”, Timisoara, 1995; Best Achievement in Directing Award for the play “Procust’s Bed”, Timisoara, 1995; “I.L. Caragiale” Festival Original Drama Award, 1996; UNITER Award for Entire Activity, 2001.

The Royal Norwegian Embassy in Bucharest has supported the national premiere of Henrik Ibsen’s “When We dead awaken” national premiere and the publishing of the Romanian translation of the play within its cultural programs for 2009.
